Fieger files $54M suit over destruction of Bloomfield Hills trees
SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Jan. 21, 2015 - Nationally-known Attorney Geoffrey Fieger
announced today he has filed a $54 million lawsuit on behalf of Bloomfield
Hills residents regarding a secret scorched earth campaign by DTE and
Davey Tree to clear cut Michigan's hundred-year-old Hardwood trees.
In December of 2014, without notice, without authority, and contrary to
100 years of practice, DTE sent nearly 20 Davey tree cutting crews to
Kensington Road in Bloomfield Hills to clear cut hundreds of century-old
hardwood trees.
Apparently, DTE had begun a secret campaign known as "Ground to Sky,"
intending to clear cut Michigan's beautiful hardwood trees that line
our streets and avenues. DTE entered into a $54 million contract with
Davey to accomplish this work.
In December of 2014, DTE and Davey began the clear cutting, affecting
more than 20 landowners before they were stopped by Bloomfield Township
Supervisor Leo Savoie, and the City of Bloomfield Hills.
"DTE and Davey had absolutely no authority to clear cut trees or
to convert the trees as their own property. Since the carnage, DTE has
been secretly trying to settle with property owners,” Fieger said.
Fieger filed the case in Oakland County Circuit Court.
