Nursing Home Abuse
This brutal crime serves as an example of nursing home abuse. Although nursing homes are supposed to serve and protect their residents, the National Center on Elder Abuse reveals 44% of residents report some type of abuse.
Examples of nursing home abuse include:
- Physical abuse, such as broken bones, bruises, etc.
- Sexual abuse
- Negligence, such as failure to deliver proper medical attention
- Verbal abuse
Nursing home negligence includes the lack of protection or care for a resident, such as failing to observe a resident if they are prone to falling, as well as failing to screen nursing home visitors. Since many residents are disabled due to physical or mental ailments, it is the nursing home’s responsibility to properly care for and protect its residents.
