The family of Aiyana Stanley-Jones, who was killed by a Detroit police officer in May 2010 during a raid, are seeking damages of at least $75,000 in a wrongful death suit filed at the U.S. District Court in Detroit by attorney Geoffrey N. Fieger. The lawsuit named Officer Joseph Weekley, Robert Rowe, the Detroit Police Department, members of the department’s Special Response Team and the city of Detroit.$75,000 wrongful death suit filed at the U.S. District Court in Detroit by attorney Geoffrey N. The lawsuit alleges that Weekly and Rowe unlawfully seized Stanley-Jones and used excessive and unlawfully deadly force, which ultimately lead to her death. The lawsuit alleges that Rowe threw a flash-bang grenade through the window of Aiyana’s family home, and police proceeded to blindly fire shots. The lawsuit also states that there was an intentional cover-up to hide the events that lead to her untimely death.
The misdemeanor count was dismissed in January, prompting Geoffrey to proceed with the wrong death suit.
