About Carmine

Carmine Paterra graduated summa cum laude from Albion College with a degree in Political Science and concentration in Public Service. While at Albion, he played on the soccer team and was the president of the Student Council.

He earned his law degree from Wayne State University Law School, where he sat on the Law School Student Association Board of Governors. He was awarded Best Brief Writer, Moot Court, in the Arthur Neef Competition, and was a semi-finalist for Best Brief Writer, Moot Court, in the Chase National Environmental Law Competition.

After graduation, Carmine practiced medical malpractice defense, specializing in birth trauma litigation. Carmine often defended doctors or hospitals in these cases. His background gives him a unique perspective, which allows him to anticipate defenses’ strategies.

Carmine has been recognized by his peers, who selected him as a Leading Lawyer. He has also been recognized by Lawyers of Distinction and as a Top 25 Medical Malpractice Lawyer by National Trial Lawyers. Carmine is licensed to practice in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Federal Court.

Born and raised in Michigan, Carmine is an active member of the Italian American Club of Livonia and Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish. He has been a member of the Italian American Bar Association of Michigan. Carmine’s wife Rita is an English teacher at Detroit Catholic Central High School. They have four sons: Dante, MarcAnthony, Sebastiano and Cristiano.

When not fighting for families with children affected by cerebral palsy, Carmine enjoys reading, traveling, spending time with his family, watching his sons play soccer, and watching his favorite Detroit sports teams and international soccer teams.
