Prescription Drugs – Side Effects
Modern medicine offers a wide variety of prescription drugs that enhance health and extend life. But what happens if some medicines do more harm than good? The global pharmaceutical industry brings in $300 billion each year, and is dominated by 10 large drug companies that control a third of the market.
Drug companies are responsible for delivering safe products and issuing warnings about potential risks. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case. Complications from prescription drugs put all of us in danger and we want to hold big pharma accountable while getting you the justice you deserve.
Class Action & Civil Suits
Pharmaceutical companies are the subject of numerous class action and civil suits for drugs like Prilosec, Lipitor, and even antibiotics for the common earache. These are drugs you and your loved ones likely have in your medicine cabinet right now.
Fieger Law is not afraid to tackle the effort it requires to bring these big companies to justice. With more than 165 verdicts and settlements of $1 million or more, we know what it takes to go to trial and win. And we care.
Prescription Drugs – Fieger Law Practice Areas
You might be surprised at the long list of prescription drugs linked to serious and even fatal conditions. Here’s a few we have our eye on at Fieger Law:
Abilify: Lawsuits have come up linking Abilify use to compulsive behavior—particularly pathological gambling.
Acetaminophen: This drug is found in Children’s Motrin, Dilantin, Ibuprofen, and other common anti-inflammatory medications. Use of acetaminophen has led to development of Stevens-Johnson syndrome, which causes the skin to blister and separate from the body. It leads to massive third-degree burns and is potentially fatal, especially if it progresses into Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis.
Aciphex (Dexilant, Nexium, Prevacid, Prilosec, Portonix & Zegerid) Use of popular heartburn drugs have been linked to acute kidney failure, acute interstitial nephritis, chronic kidney disease, and kidney failure.
Actos: Several studies have linked this Type 2 diabetes medication to bladder cancer and heart failure, leading to lawsuits against Takeda Pharmaceuticals totaling more than $2 billion.
Azithromycin: (Also called Zithromax or Z-Pac) Use of this drug has resulted in fatal irregular heart rhythms in multiple cases nationwide.
Benicar If you’ve taken Benicar and suffered a heart attack, the two may be more linked than you knew. Benicar use has been tied to severe gastrointestinal issues, heart attacks, and even death.
Caffeine (Hard Rhino Caffeine Powder): Caffeine is still a drug, but in this form consumers are at risk for receiving a fatal dose and suffering from caffeine toxicity.
Fluoroquinolone Antibiotics: Many people don’t think twice about taking an antibiotic like Cipro, Levaquin or Avelox to fight infection. But these common drugs come with a price. They have been linked to nerve damage, as well as tears and bulging to the aorta, the largest blood vessel in the body, which can lead to strokes, heart attack and death.
Risperdal/Invega: Johnson & Johnson is the subject of legal claims by the families of boys who took antipsychotic drugs Risperdal and Invega. They say the drugs cause gynecomastia, or enlarged breast tissue in boys, which can lead to emotional trauma and the need for surgical removal.
SGLT2 Inhibitors /Invokana: Manufacturers of Type 2 Diabetes drugs like Invokana, designed to reduce blood glucose, are facing lawsuits for failure to warn patients that the medication can lead to serious and potentially fatal side effects like kidney failure and heart attacks.
Januvia/Byetta: Drug manufacturers Merck and Amylin are under scrutiny for these drugs, designed to treat Type 2 Diabetes by lowering blood sugar levels. Both drugs have been linked to side effects like pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer.
Lipitor: The most widely prescribed drug of all time is meant to lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke. But what manufacturer Pfizer won’t tell you is that the drug has been linked to an increased risk of Type 2 Diabetes.
Low T Treatments:(Androgel, Androderm, Axiron, Fortesta & Testim) Use of these drugs have been linked to heart attack, stroke and pulmonary embolism. Billed as a way to boost testosterone and counteract the effects of aging, Androgel and other “Low T” treatments are also linked with cardiovascular problems leading to strokes, heart attacks and death.
Multag: Used to treat heart rhythm problems, this drug has been known to cause damage to the lungs, liver, and kidneys. If you have experienced kidney failure, respiratory issues, or liver problems since taking Multag, you’ll want to call our firm soon.
Paxil: This antidepressant manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline has been linked to serious life-threatening and life-altering side effects, including increased suicide risk for adolescents. When taken by pregnant women, it also has been linked to birth defects, deformities and autism.
Pradaxa: Approved by the FDA as safe, this blood thinner has been shown to cause damaging side effects like gastrointestinal, rectal and brain bleeding, leading to lawsuits against the drug manufacturer, Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals.
Proton Pump Inhibitors: These drugs, such as AstraZeneca’s Prilosec, are commonly taken to prevent heartburn. But concerns are mounting that they may cause dementia, kidney disease and other problems like intestinal infections, bone fractures, low magnesium levels and more.
Taxotere: This drug is the most commonly prescribed chemotherapy medication given to women with breast cancer. However, some women have recently reported permanent hair loss, or Alopecia, after taking it.
Flu Vaccine Injury: Recent cases have shown that flu vaccines are causing significant illness and injury to patients. Some known effects are paralysis, debilitating neurological conditions, Guillain-Barre Syndrome, and other neural-motor disorders.
Viagra: If you took Viagra and have been diagnosed with melanoma, call our firm immediately. Viagra use has been linked to skin cancer, so you may be entitled to compensation.
Xarelto: This blood thinner manufactured by Bayer has been recalled by the FDA. It can cause uncontrollable internal bleeding that can result in irreversible damage and even death.
Zofran/Zuplenz: Prescribed by doctors to treat morning sickness during pregnancy, studies have linked these drugs to birth defects and manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline is being accused of marketing the drug without FDA approval.
Zoloft: Approved by the FDA to treat adults with major depressive disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, premenstrual dysphoric disorder and social anxiety, studies have linked the drug to an increased risk of autism and dangerous birth defects in the child if the mother took the drug while pregnant.
