Vasiliki “Vanessa” Makris is passionate about advocating on behalf of those harmed by medical negligence. Her interest in this area of law began while working as a law clerk, where she witnessed firsthand the impact that powerful legal advocacy can have on victims and their families.
Originally from Athens, Greece, Vanessa has always had a deep curiosity about the world around her. Asking “why?” has never been optional—it’s instinctive. That natural drive to challenge assumptions and uncover the truth ultimately led her to pursue a career in law. As a first-generation college and law school graduate in the U.S., Vanessa draws strength from her Greek heritage, which continues to influence both her personal values and professional integrity.
She earned her bachelor’s degree cum laude from Loyola University Chicago, where she majored in Psychology and minored in Philosophy and Ethics. Her philosophical and ethical studies inspired her to enroll at Chicago-Kent College of Law. While there, she honed her courtroom skills in the Trial Advocacy program and remained active in both the Hellenic Student Bar Association and the Chicago Bar Association.
Vanessa finds balance outside of the office through hot yoga, cooking traditional and modern meals, and indulging her love of dogs, especially Golden Retrievers. Whether in the courtroom or in her community, Vanessa is guided by a deep sense of justice, empathy, and determination.
