Pediatrician Faces Felony Charges Pertaining to Possession of Child Sexually Abusive Material
Bryan Shanley Sack, an Ann Arbor pediatric urologist at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Toledo, was arraigned on Feb. 21, 2026, in the 15th District Court in Michigan on six felony charges tied to child sexually abusive material, according to WTOL Local News and court record summaries.
Sack is facing charges including two counts of aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material, one count of possession of child sexually abusive material, and three counts of using a computer to commit a crime. Public reports also state that investigators alleged he possessed or accessed more than 100 images of abusive material.
The investigation began after a cyber tip was routed through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Investigators then obtained a search warrant for Sack’s home and seized digital evidence. The bond was set at $75,000, and a probable cause conference happened on March 5, 2025.
News like this is deeply upsetting for families, especially when the accused person held a trusted role caring for children. Parents may now be asking hard questions about where this case stands, what law enforcement has said so far, and what steps to take if something about their child’s care now feels concerning.
What Law Enforcement Has Said So Far
At this stage, the criminal charges do not include allegations that Sack abused children while providing medical care to patients. Authorities stated they did not have information showing the charges were connected to his clinical work. Sack has pleaded not guilty and is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
That distinction matters. Families deserve accurate information, not assumptions. At the same time, many parents may still feel unsettled if their child was ever examined or treated by this physician, particularly because pediatric urology can involve highly sensitive and intimate examinations.
Why This News Hits Families So Hard
When criminal charges involve alleged child sexual abuse material and the accused worked in a pediatric specialty, the emotional fallout extends far beyond the criminal courtroom. Even if authorities have not alleged misconduct during patient care, parents may revisit appointments, procedures, and interactions that once seemed routine.
Some families may now remember a moment that felt off but was hard to explain at the time. Others may be unsure whether their concerns are significant enough to raise. That uncertainty is common in cases involving trusted professionals, and it can make families hesitate when they should be getting answers.
What Parents Can Do Right Now
News like this can leave families with many questions and no clear starting point. Taking a few practical steps now can help you preserve important information, support your child, and better understand what options may be available:
- Write Down What You Remember: Save appointment dates, provider names, office locations, discharge paperwork, portal messages, and anything your child may have said before or after a visit. A clear timeline can help if questions later need to be reviewed by law enforcement, a hospital system, or an experienced legal team.
- Talk With Your Child Carefully: Speak calmly and in an age-appropriate way. Give your child room to describe anything that made them uncomfortable.
- Preserve Important Records: Keep copies of medical records, follow-up instructions, bills, emails, and any messages connected to treatment. These details may become important later.
- Seek Emotional Support If Needed: If your family is struggling with fear, confusion, or stress, consider working with a mental health professional who has experience supporting children and families after traumatic or troubling events.
- Get Legal Help: If you are unsure what information matters, an attorney can help you understand what to document, what records to keep, and what options may be available.
